The PROSPER project was presented by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics (IPPG) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences at the First International Conference on Functional Biology, held from 10 to 12 September 2025 in Varna, Bulgaria.

The poster presentation, titled Big Ideas from Modest Beans”, illustrated the project’s mission to unlock the potential of orphan legumes (OLs) for sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and new value chains.

The presentation attracted researchers from 12 countries and more than 40 institutions, sparking engaging discussions on how underutilised legume crops can contribute to a more sustainable future for Europe.

Special attention was given to Work Package 6: New Products – Widening the Value of OLs, coordinated by IPPG. This work package focuses on developing innovative food and non-food products, valorising by-products, and promoting their adoption in the market.

The event marked an important milestone in expanding PROSPER’s outreach and strengthening its presence in the European sustainable research landscape.
